There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is banned. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently needed to cross, there are means around this, as is real of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, contains 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel building that features numerous amenities aside from the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
